Vässärä of the Third Name is a 340-year-old elf from Kirrath, a region obsessed with intellectual achievement and magical self-transformation. Her role is essentially a safety engineer for dangerous magical experiments. In Kirrath, ambitious mages publicly perform live feats of magic called Demonstrations, and Vässärä is the one called in beforehand to build the protective barriers that keep the audience alive if something goes wrong.

She started out as one of those ambitious experimenters herself, but watching a colleague push their magic too far and lose control of their own body during a live performance changed everything. The safety barriers she'd once dismissed as cowardice were the only thing that kept the disaster from spreading into the crowd. She abandoned that path, retrained as a protector for the Mittalli faction, and eventually earned her current name (sharpened-edge) after throwing herself into a gap when barriers failed during a later experiment.

Vässärä has pale white skin, long black hair (the one feature she's never changed across multiple reinventions of herself), a full-figured build she's chosen not to modify (a statement in a culture where reshaping your own body is standard practice), deep crimson robes woven with protective spells, light armour beneath, and precision crystal tools at her hands and temple that let her read how close a mage is to losing control.

She has a few quiet connections to Kirrath's underground faction (Suljettu), the one that believes some knowledge should be deliberately destroyed, but she hasn't joined them. Yet.
