Valeriane Aurelmont was born into one of Argenta's lesser patrician families, a respected but declining branch of House Aurelmont whose fortunes had waned over generations of poor investments and political rivalries. Though her family still possessed noble titles and ancestral estates, their influence in the Senate had diminished considerably. From childhood, Valeriane was expected to restore her family's prestige through diplomacy, marriage, or public service. But fate had other plans.
As a young girl, Valeriane displayed an extraordinary affinity for the Draconic Thread, the magickal tradition that many scholars attribute to the blessings of Ghaidahah, the Dragon Goddess. Small flames danced at her fingertips before she could properly write her own name. Candles ignited when she grew excited. Hearthfires blazed brighter when she entered a room.
Recognizing her talent, her family sent her to study under the renowned pyromancer Master Cassaro Bellisant, who quickly discovered that Valeriane possessed not merely talent, but genius. She learned to shape fire with uncommon precision, weaving flames into protective barriers, blazing lances, and intricate displays that resembled living works of art.
Despite her noble upbringing, Valeriane never developed much interest in courtly politics. She found state debates tedious and merchant intrigues exhausting. Instead, she became fascinated by the lives of ordinary Bravonians: farmers, sailors, vintners, and caravan guards whose labor sustained the Merchant Kingdom. While many expected her to become a prestigious court mage, she instead chose a life of travel.
Valeriane became known across Bravonia for her distinctive appearance. She favors flowing red or gold hooded dresses designed to allow freedom of movement when casting spells, and carries a golden staff topped with a stylized dragon motif. Her striking figure and dramatic attire make her difficult to forget, though those who underestimate her because of her appearance quickly learn their mistake.
