Zariha is an elder Zinatheli elf whose given name and house root are cosmically connected with each other: Zariha (she who shines) of El-Mashriq (the house of far lights), a coincidence Zinathel noted at her birth, recorded in the strata-library, and then watched carefully for centuries.

She spent three centuries in the El-Sabuureh, watching the great patience issue warnings and do nothing with them. When the Earth portals opened exactly as those warnings described, she moved to the Zi-Haddeth the following year. She now uses her earned name, Zi-Sharqa, openly within faction contexts. Her gift makes her uniquely valuable to the Zi-Haddeth: she can feel whether the intelligence they feed to the Compact of Mittalli is being acted on or quietly buried, often before the Compact knows itself.

Two centuries ago, during a celestial alignment, a crescent mark appeared on her forehead overnight. She was the only observer watching that portion of the sky. She doesn't discuss what she saw, except to say it didn't feel like a threat: it felt like something becoming aware it was being watched, and choosing to let her see it anyway. Zariha made her silver crescent-capped staff by her own hand the following year.
