The Maiden of the Calling is an Apsaras, a half-celestial, born of divine and mortal union, who serves as the personal representative of the Calling, the cosmic force that protects humanity from the Dark Beyond's corruption. She is one of three patron figures of the Order of the Calling, and the most active by far.

She appears as a young Iberian woman with warm tan skin that carries a faint, almost-hidden shimmer beneath the surface: the one Apsaras tell she can't fully suppress. Her brown hair is pulled back in a neat, practical bun, a deliberate departure from the flowing styles of her kind. Her eyes read as ordinary brown until you know where to look: beneath them burns a faint golden-white light, visible only to those the Calling has marked. Her body is voluptuous and unmistakably Apsaras, which creates the central tension she carries: everything about her form says allure, and everything about her bearing says that is not what I am here for.

She wears a short, form-fitting brown dress under a fur coat detailed with golden patterns that echo the Amulet of the Calling's geometry. A civilian sees luxury. A knight sees insignia. At her throat sits a pendant that resembles the Amulet without being identical to it: its nature unexplained, its purpose unasked.

In her presence, rooms grow quieter. Her voice has the Apsaras' musical resonance but pitched low, closer to plainchant than song. She manifests only in moments of extreme need, to the specific person whose choices will determine what happens next. She recruits new knights, warns active ones when irreversible change is approaching, and bears witness at turning points so that someone besides the mortal participants remembers what actually happened. Whether she has served this role since the Order's founding in 1299 or predates it is a question the Order's historians have learned not to press.
