Kharazha Ash-Whisper is a renowned Hobgoblin lorebinder whose unusual talents have made her one of the Howling Banner's most valuable specialists. Raised within the Ironbrood creches, she displayed an extraordinary resistance to magical influence from an early age, along with a rare ability to perceive lingering traces of magic and emotion that others could not detect.
Following her First Sorting, Kharazha entered specialist training focused on anti-magical operations, wight lore, and battlefield occultism. During an early mission she suffered a sword wound from a wight, leaving a scar reinforced with iron rings that emit a faint chiming sound whenever the undead draw near. Whether this phenomenon is magical, psychological, or something stranger remains unknown.
As her career progressed, Kharazha became famous for her ability to perceive the "echoes" left behind by wights: faint impressions of memory, despair, and identity lingering within Glimmermoor. She meticulously records fragments of wight-songs, forgotten names, and traces of lost histories, building a body of knowledge unmatched among her peers.
Her expertise eventually brought her into the service of Naazhra Howling Banner, where her calm insight complemented the captain's relentless determination. Alongside Naazhra and Rhazuma Thorn-Blood, Kharazha became part of the core leadership of the Howling Banner, helping guide numerous successful campaigns against the undead.
Beyond Glimmermoor, Kharazha frequently travels in disguise throughout Mystaria, studying human cultures and their use of the Threads. These journeys have earned her a reputation as one of the Ironbrood's foremost experts on both mortal magic and the undead. Rumors persist that she has spoken directly with wights and survived with her mind intact, though she has never confirmed such stories.
